Weese+Design Brings Prairie to Custom Rugs
Marcia Weese, of Weese+Design, grew up in Chicago on the edge of the prairie. Seminal childhood memories of wind in the grasses, spit beetles on the stalks, fireflies in the dark skies, all give way to this elegant and simple collection of custom rugs woven by Tibetan weavers. Rich hues of wool with silk accents defining pattern create an elegant group of custom rugs that bring the poetry of the prairie indoors.
I remember collecting fireflies and keeping them in a mason jar with holes in the top. As soon as their lights began to dim even slightly, I released them into the night sky.
Weese+Design’s Custom Rugs Recall Weather On the Prairie
Weese draws on childhood memories to design WIND– one of ten patterns in her custom rugs from the PRAIRIE COLLECTION. The light and weather inspired this collection as she draws directly from her childhood experiences.

Out along the prairie the wind coursed and birds perched on the lines like musical notes in a score
Ten patterns in the Prairie Collection describe weather and flora on the great midwestern prairie. These custom rugs are hand knotted by Tibetan weavers in a rich color palette of wool and silk. Even the names of the colors evoke life on the prairie-bluestem, leaf, thistle, burdock, stone, smoke…
